State Sex Offender Housing Limitation Law Senate Bill #6440 and House Bill #2594
Please show your support for proposed state legislation on behalf of our neighborhoods — not just in Vancouver, but statewide. This legislation is designed to prevent level II or III sex offenders from co-habitating in the same house, as has happened recently in Vancouver, WA. This proposed legislation prevents sex offenders from establishing residence with or within one thousand feet of other risk level II or III offenders currently under community custody for the commission of a sex offense (while the sex offender is on parole). This presentation was in collaboration with the Vancouver Neighborwoods Stewards and the Vancouver Urban Forestry Division. During a meeting on April 8, 2003, the Rosemere Neighborhood Association Board provided the City with a list of twelve concerns to improve the outdated neighborhood ordinance. The Rosemere Neighborhood Association is submitting paperwork in May 2003 to the City of Vancouver for a Neighborhood Transportation Improvement Grant to install curb cuts along 33rd Street from Grand Boulevard to the I-5 overpass. This Grant is a continuation of the grant awarded in 2001 for a similar project along Grand Boulevard from Fourth Plain Boulevard to 33rd Street. [Read More...]
Rosemere Neighborhood Association
On April 9, 2003, the Rosemere Neighborhood Association (RNA) filed a complaint alleging disproportionate adverse impact against their predominantly minority and low income residents caused by the conceptual design of the proposed I-5 Corridor Improvements Project managed by WSDOT and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). RNA alleged that the design of the proposed project involves major displacements in their neighborhood, particularly “K” street, causing the type of high and disproportionate adverse environmental impact prohibited by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and EO 12898 on Environmental Justice. Chum Salmon are protected under the federal Endangered Species Act. These endangered salmon have been drawn to the warm waters of Josef Creek in Vancouver for thousands of years. The Columbia River once turned silver with the arrival of salmon every year, but now only about a thousand Chum find their way to Josef Creek, which is just east of I-205. The creek, one of the last remaining salmon runs in Southwest Washington, feeds into the Columbia River. [Read More...]
