On Saturday, March 12th, Rosemere had another successful neighborhood tree planting. Arnada, Carter Park, Hough, and Shumway neighborhoods were also involved in this tree planting and a total of 96 trees were planted in the five neighborhoods. Area Veteran and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe Concerned Over Cemetery – March 10, 2005

On March 7, 2005, representatives of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe (Council members Mike Iyall, and Taylor Aalvik) and a representative of the area Veterans association (Veteran Chuck Mason) met at the Livingston Cemetery, which is pocketed adjacent to a closed US military installation in Clark County Washington, called Camp Bonneville. Camp Bonneville was announced for closure in 1995 as part of the Nation’s Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act. Several members of the Rosemere Neighborhood Association attended EJ-ACT!, Environmental Justice – Action, Communities, and Topics, on February 26, 2005. The RNA wishes to thank Ben Duncan and Mark Stephan of Washington State University, Vancouver, and the Center for Social and Environmental Justice for presenting this daylong event featuring speakers and discussion leaders from all across the Environmental Justice field.

Lower Columbia Salmon Recovery Plan – December 15, 2004
Governor Locke presents the State’s First Regional Salmon Recovery Plan at the Clark County Hearing Room in Vancouver.
On December 15, 2004, Governor Locke arrived in Vancouver to sign and approve a plan to revitalize the endangered salmon population in the Columbia River Basin. This plan was presented to the federal government as the first locally developed regional salmon recovery plan for the State of Washington. This Salmon Recovery Plan was the product of collaboration among local, state, and tribal governments, community leaders and non-profit groups. [Read More...]

Work at Camp Bonneville to remove contamination – September 20, 2004
Camp Bonneville is a decommissioned military installation in Clark County. The US Army used this forested area for target practice, including the firing of missiles. The camp was also used as a munitions landfill. These buried munitions have caused a toxic underground plume of ammonium perchlorate to develop.

WA Department of Ecology requests comments on Hanford Cleanup – September 8, 2004
Hanford CleanupThe Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) requests public feedback on proposed permit modifications for continued construction of Hanford’s Waste Treatment Plant. This plant will convert radioactive liquid waste that is stored underground into immobilized glass using the process of vitrification. Dad allegedly attempts son’s circumcision – September 8, 2004
VANCOUVER, Wash. — A father who allegedly tried to circumcise his 8-year-old son in the bathroom after reading selections from the Bible has been charged with first-degree assault of a child.
Edwin Bruce Baxter, 33, was charged Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court. Judge Diane Woolard set bail at $50,000 and scheduled an arraignment for Sept. 17. [Read More...]
