    Scott Hewitt’s December 9, 2004 Reporter’s Notebook about the Rosemere neighborhood warrants a response. It is too bad that the Columbian chooses to slander the Rosemere Neighborhood Association, which is a group of well-intentioned people pointing out the naked-emperorness of city government for the common good.     Governor Locke presents the State’s First Regional Salmon Recovery Plan at the Clark County Hearing Room in Vancouver.

    On December 15, 2004, Governor Locke arrived in Vancouver to sign and approve a plan to revitalize the endangered salmon population in the Columbia River Basin. This plan was presented to the federal government as the first locally developed regional salmon recovery plan for the State of Washington.     Camp Bonneville is a decommissioned military installation in Clark County. The US Army used this forested area for target practice, including the firing of missiles. The camp was also used as a munitions landfill. These buried munitions have caused a toxic underground plume of ammonium perchlorate to develop.

    The Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) requests public feedback on proposed permit modifications for continued construction of Hanford’s Waste Treatment Plant. This plant will convert radioactive liquid waste that is stored underground into immobilized glass using the process of vitrification. The DOE claims that this process will stabilize the radioactive waste and make it safer for long-term storage. [Read More...]

  • Dad allegedly attempts son’s circumcision – September 8, 2004

    VANCOUVER, Wash. — A father who allegedly tried to circumcise his 8-year-old son in the bathroom after reading selections from the Bible has been charged with first-degree assault of a child.

    Edwin Bruce Baxter, 33, was charged Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court. Judge Diane Woolard set bail at $50,000 and scheduled an arraignment for Sept. 17. [Read More...]
